Research-based approach to sustainable workplaces
Our method is based on the Hartic Research Framework, which in turn draws on established Nordic workplace research and modern organizational psychology to help organizations understand, develop, and strengthen their work environment, leadership, collaboration, and sustainable performance over time.
Research-based for today's workplace
At Hartic, we believe that sustainable workplaces are created through clear organizational frameworks, safe work environments, and leadership that fosters growth over time.
That is why we have developed a research-based method for measuring and understanding the factors that influence the work environment, organizational health, and sustainable performance.
Our studies and analyses are based on established research in:
- Workplace environment.
- Organizational psychology.
- Motivation.
- Psychological security.
- A sustainable work life.
Our approach combines Nordic workplace research with modern organizational psychology to help organizations foster understanding, drive development, and create long-term sustainable workplaces.
Based on Nordic research on working life
Hartic is based on a well-thought-out approach to organizational health and workplace safety, drawing on, among other things:
- QPSNordic.
- Danish Psychosocial Questionnaire (DPQ).
- Research on psychological safety.
- Research on motivation and sustained performance.
This means that our surveys measure not only job satisfaction or engagement, but also organizational factors such as:
- Workload.
- Clarity.
- Collaboration.
- Leadership.
- Recovery.
- Culture.
- Security.
- Learning and Development.
Workplace safety is about more than just the individual
We view the work environment as something that is created through the interaction between:
- People.
- Leadership.
- Culture.
- Structure.
- Working methods.
That is why Hartic focuses on the organizational conditions that influence people’s ability to thrive, grow, and perform at a sustainable level over time.
From Measurement to Development
We believe that research should lead to more than just reports and indices.
Hartic is designed to:
- Build understanding.
- Encourage dialogue.
- Identify strengths and areas of risk.
- Enable continuous development.
The goal is to help organizations create sustainable, safe, and well-functioning workplaces, both today and in the long term.
Research with practical applications
Our surveys are designed to be:
- Clear and easy to understand.
- Relevant to today's workplace.
- Organizationally capable of taking action.
- Can be tracked over time.
We combine research-based insights with a modern user experience to make workplace environments and organizational health easier to understand and improve.

Our method is based on the Hartic Research Framework
Our method is based on the Hartic Research Framework, our research foundation for workplace environments, organizational health, and sustainable working life.
The method consists of eight areas that together provide a comprehensive picture of the organizational conditions that influence people’s well-being, collaboration, motivation, and long-term performance.
Each area is based on established research in occupational health and safety and organizational psychology and measures factors that research shows have a significant impact on both individual health and an organization’s ability to develop.
Together, these areas help organizations to:
Identify strengths and areas of risk
Understanding organizational patterns
Track progress over time
Lay the groundwork for dialogue and improvement
Hartic's method is designed to make research practically applicable in day-to-day work related to occupational health and safety, leadership, and organizational development.
Below, you can read more about the eight areas that make up our approach.
Prerequisites and Organization
This area focuses on how work is planned, organized, and prioritized in day-to-day operations. It measures factors such as workload, clarity, resources, autonomy, and the ability to work sustainably over time.
Research shows that unclear priorities, high workloads, and a lack of resources have a negative impact on stress levels, performance, and the work environment. At the same time, clarity, structure, and the opportunity to influence one’s work can boost both motivation and sustainability.
This section helps organizations determine whether their employees have the right organizational conditions to perform their work in a sustainable and effective manner.
Collaboration and Culture
Collaboration and culture are about how people work together within the organization. This area encompasses communication, social support, inclusion, trust, and organizational climate, among other things.
Research shows that strong collaboration and a supportive culture contribute to a better work environment, higher levels of engagement, and greater organizational capacity for development.
This field helps organizations understand how people collaborate, how conflicts are managed, and whether the culture is characterized by openness, respect, and trust.
Purpose and Direction
This area focuses on understanding the organization’s goals, direction, and purpose. It assesses, among other things, the clarity of goals, understanding of the organization’s priorities, and how one’s own work contributes to the bigger picture.
Research shows that people perform better and feel more motivated when they understand why their work is important and how it contributes to the organization’s mission and development.
This section helps organizations understand whether employees feel that goals, direction, and organizational changes are clear to them.
Recognition and feedback
This area focuses on appreciation, feedback, and the feeling of being recognized for one’s work. It measures factors such as feedback, recognition, and how achievements are acknowledged within the organization.
Research shows that constructive feedback and recognition have a positive impact on motivation, learning, and engagement. A lack of feedback, on the other hand, can create uncertainty and reduce motivation over time.
This section helps organizations understand whether employees are receiving the support and feedback they need to grow and feel motivated at work.
Leadership
Leadership is about how managers and executives influence the work environment, clarity, trust, and organizational development.
This area encompasses support, fairness, clarity, accessibility, and change management, among other things. Research shows that leadership has a significant impact on the work environment, motivation, and organizational health.
Clear and fair leadership contributes to a sense of security, better collaboration, and greater trust within the organization.
This area helps organizations understand how leadership is perceived and how it affects employees’ working conditions and work environment.
Physical work environment
This area focuses on the physical work environment and the practical conditions necessary for working safely and sustainably.
Among other things, this assessment evaluates ergonomics, safety, equipment, and the physical work environment at the workplace.
Hartic views the physical and psychosocial work environments as parts of the same whole. A safe and well-functioning physical work environment is an important foundation for both well-being and performance.
A sustainable work environment and safety
This area focuses on long-term sustainability and well-being in the workplace. It measures factors such as stress, recovery, work-life balance, and psychological well-being.
Research shows that people function and perform better in environments where they feel safe to express ideas, ask questions, and raise concerns without fear of negative consequences.
This area helps organizations understand whether the work environment is sustainable over time and whether people feel secure, balanced, and able to recharge.
Learning, Development, and Improvement
This area focuses on the potential for individuals and organizations to develop over time. It measures factors such as learning, skills development, improvement initiatives, and innovation.
Research shows that organizations with a strong learning culture often demonstrate greater adaptability, higher motivation, and better long-term development.
This area helps organizations understand whether people feel they have opportunities to grow, contribute ideas, and participate in improvement efforts.
